students wearing bat masks

Recently environmental science classes partnered with FFA to create bat houses for school and community members while teaching younger students about the benefits bats bring to our ecosystem. High school students created a presentation for second and fourth graders about all of the things bats do to help us. Bats eat mosquitos, pollinate flowers and plants and, despite popular fiction, do not bite people and turn them into vampires.

Second grade students colored a bat mask to take home and fourth grade students played games about bats. One game illustrated how just a few sick bats can infect an entire colony and decimate the bat population.

Once classes are back in session in January, RVHS students will be giving away bat houses at games and events to any interested community member as long as supplies last.
